Happy Dance

Well Ryder is doing VERY well. He had a check up today as we stopped in to get some more pain meds but don’t worry he is not in pain but they are helping with his tummy troubles since he has terrible gas pains and gas for that matter. Doc says he is even surpassing his expectations which says a lot because the doc said he was going to bounce back very fast. Also Dylan has finally petted Ryder, I tried on Tuesday evening to get him too and he just sat on my lap and cried saying “mama I am sorry but I just can’t” Broke my heart I tell ya because I know it’s simply from the guilt of leaving the gate opened. Well My son Dylan is special himself, see he was born with two thumbs(on the same hand)joined at the knuckle. At age one he had surgery to correct the problem however his thumb is a little different then “normal”. So I used this to my advantage since they are best budds I simply told Dylan now he is just like you. Wednesday evening I asked him to let Ryder outside(first time since accident). He was very hesitant at first which was to be expected. I simply told him to put his leash on and take him out after all he does it all by himself anyway your just out there to make sure he doesn’t slip on the ice. It worked and he did it but when Ryder came inside he had a present with him. A huge stick lol. I looked at Dylan and he says” mom he wouldn’t come inside he wanted to play fetch and I know he’s not supposed to yet so I told him if he came in he could bring the stick with him” Whatever works right? Well I told Dylan to put Ryder’s stick on his blanket so he would lay down and rest and of course that worked as well. Dylan went to go in the other room and I said bud you need to pet him on the head and tell him good boy since he listened to you. Dylan walked over sat down right beside him and stroked his head and said good boy buddy I love you…my eyes instantly filled with tears. It was at that moment I knew we were all going to be alright and that everything we have went through was worth it to my son could have his buddy back. This was the break through I had been waiting for. So the last 36 hours have been filled with many great things and both me and Ryder are doing a happy dance 🙂
